Former Journalist Wins 'Genius' Grant

Last year I hosted an NPC Luncheon with David Simon, former journalist and creator of groundbreaking television like "Homicide," "The Wire" and "Treme." A one-time reporter at the Baltimore Sun, Simon spoke about the news business and how it prepared him for a career in television drama.

This week, Simon was honored with a MacArthur Fellowship, often called a “genius grant,” which should give him financial freedom to pursue interesting projects.
