Free director's screening of Sinise documentary, 7 pm June 29

National Press Club Members are invited to a free screening of the documentary “Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good,” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, in the ballroom.

The screening will occur on the eve of actor Gary Sinise's Club luncheon on June 30. Sinise plays in the "Lt. Dan Band," which is named after a character he portrayed in the film "Forrest Gump."

The feature-length documentary chronicles a two-year journey of the band as it travels the world performing for the U.S. military and their families. It includes special appearances by Academy Award Winners Jon Voight and Robert Duvall, Raquel Welch, Connie Stevens and John Ratzenberger.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. To RSVP for the screening or the luncheon, contact the Reservations Department via 202-662-7501 or [email protected]. Credentialed press may cover both events.

Sinise, nominated for an Oscar for his "Lt. Dan" role, currently stars in the CBS television series "CSI: New York."

After the screening, the audience is invited to a Q&A with the film's director and producer, Jonathan Flora. Flora is founder of Lamplight Entertainment, an award-winning producer with Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, and a member of the Advisory Board for the GI Film Festival.

Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer called the documentary “a wonderful and inspiring chronicle of Gary and his fellow musicians as they journey across America and the world. But the real point of the film, as it should be, is to shine a much-needed light on those in uniform, whose tremendous sacrifices can never — and must never — be taken for granted.”
