Freelance Committee meets, 8:30 am March 29

The National Press Club Freelance Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the McClendon Room. The Club's free breakfast will be available.

RSVP to [email protected].

The Freelance Committee will host regular monthly meetings and events for Club members who are or are interested in becoming freelance news journalists.

"The goal of the committee is to help Club members who are freelance news and feature journalists without a newsroom, to meet their particular needs and to help them develop as a vital part of the news reporting network in Washington and around the world," said Freelance Committee Chair Peggy Orchowski ([email protected]), a congressional reporter for Hispanic Outlook on Higher Education magazine.

Meetings will consist of introductions (JAWS style; come find out what that means), a speaker and a discussion. The March 29 meeting will feature Karen Thuermer, a long-time freelance journalist, Club member and former editor who will share tips for succeeding as a freelance news journalist.

The discussion will focus on how the Club could help freelance members in terms of services, programs and events -- becoming the newsroom they don't have, which would attract other freelancers to the Club.
