Holzer will present his book "The Presidents vs. the Press: The Endless Battle Between the White House and the Media – From the Founding Fathers to Fake News."

The event will include a discussion with the author, followed by a question-and-answer session with questions from the audience. Questions may be sent during the live event to [email protected].

In this era of “Fake News”, Holzer explains in "The Presidents vs. the Press" that every president wants to control his legacy and that one way to do that is to grumble about media coverage.

Holzer has participated in previous book raps, the Club’s Book & Author Night and on the Kalb Report, which is produced at the Club. He is the director of Hunter College’s Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute.

In 2015, Holzer retired from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York after 23 years. He served as chairman of the Lincoln Bicentennial Foundation and was the recipient in 2008 of the National Humanities Medal from former President George W. Bush. He began his career as a reporter and editor of The Manhattan Tribune, served as press secretary to Rep. Bella S. Abzug, D-New York, and spent six years as public affairs director for WNET. He has authored, co-authored, and edited more than 52 books, and contributed more than 550 articles to magazines and journals, plus chapters and forewords for 60 additional books.
