Comer is the new chairman of the House Oversight Committee now that the House of Representatives has elected its leadership and made committee assignments. Comer, who previously served as the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee when Democrats controlled the House, has said the Oversight Committee under Republican control will focus on rooting out waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in the federal government. Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., is now the ranking member.

He also promised to investigate President Joe Biden's son Hunter for alleged "influence peddling"; the crisis at the southern border; the origin of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and the use of U.S. funds at a research lab in China; and the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
