Hurry! Deadline March 4 for WHCA awards

The deadline for the White House Correspondents’ Association’s three awards in print and broadcast journalism is March 4.

WHCA is seeking entries for the following awards:
Merriman Smith Award, which recognizes presidential news coverage under deadline pressure in print and broadcast categories. The winner will receive $2,500.

Aldo Beckman Award, which recognizes repeated excellence in White House coverage with a single award for either a print or a broadcast journalist. Entries may include clips, original material, wire copy prints, photocopies or broadcast scripts. Online entries must be original Web content. The winner will receive $1,000.

The Edgar A. Poe Award, which recognizes excellence in coverage of news of national or regional significance with a single award for either a print or a broadcast journalist. Entries may include clips, original material, wire copy prints, photocopies or broadcast scripts. Online entries must be original Web content. The winner will receive $2,500.

Winners will be recognized at the WHCA’s annual dinner on April 25. The Medill School of Journalism and Ellen Shearer, co-director of the Medill News Service in Washington, D.C. will coordinate the judging.
