Idaho media tour features manufacturers adapting to new economy

The State of Idaho is offering a media tour, Sept. 11-15, to show how manufacturers are adapting to a new economy and succeeding in a changing world.

The tour will feature:

Competitive boat manufacturers that have created a consortium that is now marketing their region as “the jet boat capital of the world.”

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe that has launched several innovative businesses to create a vibrant economic region in northern Idaho. The tribe not only operates a large manufacturing operation that sells aeronautic components to the military, it also provides high-speed internet to the region, is expanding the area's largest medical center and is launching a new FM radio station this fall.

A high-end log home manufacturer that has found that demand continues in the western United States for unique second (and, sometimes, third) homes.

A large hunting knife company that is insourcing its manufacturing back to the United States.

Meals and ground transportation during the tour are hosted. Space is limited. Freelancers will need a letter of assignment.

RSVP by Aug. 1 to Julie Howard, Idaho Department of Commerce, [email protected] (208) 334-2650 ext. 2147.
