Those were two of the ideas shared among the independent authors group of National Press Club members when they met July 11 for their monthly discussion of issues facing independent authors/publishers.

The group, whose conversations typically center on how indie authors can more effectively market and distribute their book, will feature some thought-provoking guest speakers on its upcoming calendar. On Thursday, Sept. 12, representatives from two local independent booksellers will discuss how indie authors and booksellers can help support each other.

And on Thursday, Dec. 12, noted publishing expert Jane Friedman will share her expertise. Friedman specializes in “helping authors and publishers make smarter business decisions.” For more insights, a free subscription to her Electric Speed e-newsletter is available here.

The group will not meet in August.
