Indie authors group to talk ins and outs of audiobooks, Aug. 13

Audiobooks have become a staple in the publishing industry. The National Press Club's informal group of independent author members will learn the ins and outs of audiobooks at its next meeting on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 9:30 a.m.

Will Dages, head of Findaway Voices, will speak to the group. Findaway Voices helps authors create and distribute audiobooks worldwide. Dages been immersed in the audiobook industry for more than eight years, and is an avid audiobook listener himself, listening to about 50 (mostly non-fiction) books a year.

The wide-ranging discussion will address the future for audiobooks in the pandemic and post-pandemic worlds, what should guide independent authors when deciding whether to produce an audiobook version of their work, and what service to use to create it.

The meeting, one informal member benefit maintained during the Club's reduction in services during the health crisis, will be held via videoconference. Remote meetings will continue throughout 2020 unless health and safety conditions take a significant turn for the better.

The group is open to new attendees. Club members may request an invitation by contacting Ed Barks by clicking here. In order to be considered, you must indicate your experience with or interest in independent authorship (sometimes called self-publishing) when making your request, and you must be a Club member in good standing.

Independent authors manage their own publishing businesses rather than relying on agents and traditional publishing houses, gaining added control of their content and speed to market.
