Indie authors, NPCJI director share Book Fair ideas; Set next meeting for May 9

What role should independent authors play in the annual National Press Club Book Fair?

That was the question addressed at an April 11 meeting of Club members who publish their books independently.

Julie Moos, director of the National Press Club Journalism Institute, which organizes the Book Fair, joined in the conversation and shared some of her vision for the event, typically held in November.

The publishing world is changing rapidly, and traditional publishers no longer hold all the cards. Indeed, some authors — including those in the informal Club group — prefer to publish independently.

Club members who have published one or more books not using a traditional publisher are invited to attend the group’s next gathering on Thursday, May 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the McClendon Room. Note that your books must be available for sale to the public by booksellers online, in bookstores, or both. Guest speaker will be Naren Aryal, CEO of Mascot Books, who will discuss vanity/hybrid publishing.

Authors interested in attending should contact Ed Barks at [email protected] in advance to reserve a seat.
