Insurance trade magazine seeks assistant editor

The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, a fast-paced, trade association located in the urban hub of Penn Quarter, is seeking an assistant editor of our award-winning industry magazine Leader’s Edge.

The council represents the top national, regional and international commercial brokerage firms in the U.S. and abroad.

We may be square (well, the magazine is) but we are also redefining the rules of a trade publication, and need a Yin to our Yang. The ideal candidate is a smart, inquisitive and creative journalist who can write, proofread and assist in collaborating and editing our magazine. We want someone on our team who loves to be challenged and is passionate about words as well as design.

This assistant editor position will be responsible for offering sophisticated writing that challenges us as a staff and will appeal to our readers worldwide. The assistant editor should also be a digital native who can immediately dive in to help shape our coverage across both print and digital platforms, and strengthen the cross-pollination of our boundary-pushing content.

The office is located just off the metro near all things cultural, including an array of food trucks and good restaurants.

Skills:
· 5+ years journalism
· Newspaper and /or magazine journalism preferred
· Industry knowledge (commercial insurance, politics, and/or finance) a plus but not required.
· Must be willing to dig deep into trending issues and topics
· News junkie
· Experience with digital content publishing
· Entrepreneurial, yet deadline-oriented with a keen ability to multi-task and work under pressure
· Comfortable working with freelance writers, thought leaders, artists, printers and production team
· Knowledge of InCopy and the Adobe Suite a help
