Interim CEO of Girl Scouts to speak at Headliners Newsmaker, Feb. 11

When COVID-19 forced schools online and threatened to wipe out extracurricular activities, the Girl Scouts took its "Be Prepared" motto to heart and persevered. Girl Scouts of the USA Interim CEO Judith Batty will explain how the organization pivoted to pandemic footing -- and saved the annual cookie sale -- at a National Press Club Headliners event at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.

This one-hour program will stream live as part of the National Press Club’s Virtual Newsmaker series, and is accessible to both the media and members of the general public free-of-charge. Download a calendar reminder here.

Batty’s remarks will be followed by a moderated question-and-answer session with National Press Club President Lisa Matthews. Viewers can send their questions for Batty via email to [email protected].  Matthews will ask as many questions as time permits.

Batty made history last summer when she became the first Black woman to lead the organization since its founding in 1912. Batty grew up in girl scouting, starting as a Brownie and continuing through the Senior level. As an adult she also served as a Junior Troop co-leader, and is a lifetime member of Girl Scouts. She served on Girl Scouts of the USA’s National Board starting in 2014.
