International Correspondents have moving visit to U.S. Holocaust Museum

Members of the International Correspondents Committee visited the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on June 14 as the museum commemorates its 20th anniversary.

The museum, located near the Mall between 14th and 15th streets, attracts thousands of visitors each day of every age from around the world.

Committee members found the museum a very effective teaching institution and noted the visitors, including normally rambunctious teenagers, were quiet, respectful and somber as thy viewed the exhibits, photos and films. Committee members who toured the museum learned about the many millions were Holocaust victims. In addition to over 6 million Jews, Christians, homosexuals, disabled, Gypsies, and others were starved, tortured, and executed.

There is no charge for admission. Journalists and educators can contact media affairs for more information about a group visit.

The International Correspondents Committee, chaired by NPC Vice President Myron Belkind, often features speeches and visits with ambassadors and to embassies in Washington.
