'Irish Viking' Bjerga scheduled to perform at St. Patrick's buffet, March 14

Former National Press Club President Alan Bjerga, a talented singer and guitar player when he's not reporting for Bloomberg News, is describing himself as the "Irish Viking" for this year's St. Patrick's Day celebration at the Club.

Given how often Vikings pillaged Ireland in days of yore, a great many of us claiming Irish heritage probably have a bit of Viking blood in us.

Bjerga's musical talents will be on display during the Club's annual St. Patrick's Day buffet on March 14 at the Reliable Source. He will step in for the featured entertainer, guitarist Matt Palumbo, when Palumbo takes his break.

Starting around 7:30 p.m., Bjerga promises to play a couple of "libation tunes" and then lead the gathering in singing "Wild Rover." Lyrics will be provided.

The festive evening begins at 5:30 p.m. The buffet will feature a lip-smacking, authentic Irish menu from Chef Susan Delbert. It will include traditional Irish favorites corned beef and cabbage and shepherd's pie as well as Guinness venison stew and herb and garlic crusted leg of lamb.

Reservations are recommended. The price is $17 plus tax and gratuity. Reserve at [email protected] or 202-662-7443.
