ISO New Editor for Wire

Almost as if by magic since mid-2008, The Wire has been arriving in Press Club member in-boxes, a tribute to the work of editor Sylvia Smith and other volunteers who have kept membership up to date on the latest happenings at the National Press Club.

But Smith, the 2008 president and founder and guiding force behind The Wire, is transitioning to other challenges in 2011, which means other Club members are needed to seize the opportunity to continue this vital contribution to the life and membership of the National Press Club beginning Jan. 1.

The editor of The Wire edits and formats all the submissions to the newsletter. The current publishing schedule is four days a week, and the time commitment averages five to eight hours per week. For more details about what's entailed, send a note to [email protected]

Filling Sylvia's shoes will be difficult, Club President Alan Bjerga said, but the rewards of The Wire are great, and there is no better talent base to draw from than Club members.

"I would urge that members with a flair for writing and editing and a desire to serve the world's leading professional organization for journalists consider The Wire," Bjerga said. "In only two short years, it's become an essential must-read for members. But like everything else in a 102-year organization, it must be sustained beyond its founding vision. Here is a chance to build from a solid foundation and further the Club's mission to its members."
