'James' by Percival Everett is topic of Books & Brunch June 15 virtual meeting

The National Press Club's Books & Brunch group plans to meet virtually at noon Saturday, June 15, to discuss James by Percival Everett.

To RSVP and receive a Zoom link, please email Fay Iudicello at [email protected] by Thursday, June 12. Those who RSVP should expect to receive the invitation at 9 a.m. on June 15.

James is a reimagining of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn told from the point of view of the enslaved Jim, who decides to hide on Jackson Island to escape imminent sale to a man in New Orleans. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his father.

Several members of the Books & Brunch group are planning to also reread Twain's novel to inform the discussion.

Want to get a head start on the July book? Books & Brunch plan to discuss Age of Acrimony: How Americans Fought To Fix Their Democracy by Jon Grinspan as its noon virtual meeting scheduled for Saturday, July 20.
