Job Opening: State Department Seeks Photo Researcher

The Department of State’s International Information Programs (IIP) Bureau in Washington seeks a photo researcher with a good editorial eye. IIP’s Written Content team produces and curates content for print, social and electronic media. ShareAmerica will represent a main focus for this hire.

Candidates must
· work under tight, daily deadlines
· possess the aesthetic sensibility and editorial judgment to identify images that render content engaging to social media audiences
· possess the editorial judgment to identify images/graphics that support foreign policy goals to audiences in other countries, whose sensibilities differ from those of Americans
· ability to work with writers to adapt headlines and story angles to photos and vice versa
· possess extensive knowledge of and research skills in commercial and stock image databases
· possess ability to track down copyright information and purchase images from commercial houses and to negotiate rights and pricing with individual photographers and other rights holders
· conceive photoshoots and infographics and offer direction to staff photographers and graphic designers
· offer guidance to editorial colleagues regarding placement, composition, cropping, resolution and other photo enhancements and, as required, handle these duties on a WordPress-based publishing platform
be available and in the office on a full-time basis
