Assistant Managing Editor

The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers is a fast-paced, trade association in the urban hub of Penn Quarter in Washington, D.C.. We represent the top national, regional and international commercial insurance brokerage firms in the U.S. and abroad, and we are seeking an Assistant Managing Editor for our award-winning Business Magazine, Leader’s Edge. We may be square (well, the magazine is) but we are also redefining the rules of a trade publishing, and need a Yin to our Yang.

Leader’s Edge Magazine, a bold, intelligent, award-winning magazine for the commercial insurance brokerage business, is looking for a smart, inquisitive and creative journalist to write, proofread and assist in collaborating, managing and editing our magazine. We want someone on our team who loves to be challenged and is passionate about words as well as design. This position will be responsible for offering sophisticated writing that challenges us as a staff and will appeal to our readers worldwide. The assistant managing editor should also be a digital native who can immediately dive in to help shape our coverage across both print and digital platforms, and strengthen the cross-pollination of our boundary-pushing content.

We are located just off the metro near all things cultural, including an array of food trucks and good restaurants. If you’re a foodie—even better!
We take our work seriously but ourselves…not so much.

Skills:
· 10+ years journalism
· Newspaper and /or magazine journalism preferred
· Industry knowledge (commercial insurance, politics, and/or finance) a plus but not required
· Must be willing to dig deep into trending issues and topics
· News junky
· Experience with digital content publishing
· Entrepreneurial yet deadline oriented with a keen ability to multi-task and work under pressure
· Comfortable working with freelance writers, thought leaders, artists, printers and production team
· Knowledge of InCopy and the Adobe Suite a help
