Journalism Institute’s first Annual Report shows year of growth, meaningful impact

NPCJI Annual ReportNew signature programs. Energized press freedom initiatives. An invigorated staff with big ideas.

The National Press Club Journalism Institute released its first-ever Annual Report on Thursday, Jan. 16. The report highlights how the Institute aligns its activities to its mission — to promote an engaged global citizenry through an independent and free press, and equip journalists with skills and standards to inform the public in ways that inspire civic engagement.

The report is available for download.

The Institute’s staff and activities have grown under the leadership of executive director Julie Moos, who recently celebrated her one-year anniversary with the organization.

“Now, more than ever, it’s important for journalism to show its work and earn trust from the communities they serve,” Moos said. “That’s what we hope to do with this report — to be transparent about our work for the people and communities that support the Institute.”

The report includes:

  • Featured programming, culled from the Institute’s training sessions held in 2019
  • Highlighted press freedom efforts, including the “Ask About Austin” campaign
  • A timeline for the Fallen Journalists Memorial Foundation, founded in 2019
  • A summary of revenue and expenses
  • An introduction to 2020 Institute Board President Angela Greiling Keane of Politico, as well as the incoming board and Institute staff.

“The report gives us a chance to reflect on what we can do when we come together as a journalism community,” Moos said. “It also helps propel us into 2020, a bright year ahead.”
