Journalists, members of Congress face off in Club's Spelling Bee, Sept. 14

After a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the National Press Club's much-loved "Press vs. Politicians" spelling bee returns on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Club's historic Ballroom.

Described by the Capitol Hill newspaper  Roll Call, a as "one of Washington's most beloved nerdfests," the event pits members of Congress against the reporters who cover them in a night of fun and friendly competition. 

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the competition set to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for non-members and $15 for members. They are available online and can also be purchased at the door.

The champions of the 2022 and 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee will serve as judges, and the Bee's official pronouncer will pronounce. Participants include members of Congress from both sides of the aisle, along with journalists from NPR and The Washington Post. The winner will take home the coveted "Press vs. Politicians" trophy, along with bragging rights.
