The Kalb Report - Remembering a March, a Movement and a Dream

In commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, The National Press is proud to offer this encore presentation of our 2013 Kalb Report public broadcasting series program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington. Joining moderator Marvin Kalb were Congressman John Lewis, Ambassador Andrew Young, NAACP Chairman Emeritus Julian Bond, Morehouse College President Dr. John Wilson and journalists Gwen Ifill and Dorothy Gilliam. Club President Michael Freedman, executive producer of The Kalb Report series, says the program represented a memorable and meaningful moment in the history of the National Press Club, bringing together three key leaders of the Civil Rights Movement who helped organize and participated in the March with Marvin Kalb, who covered the 1963 event for Walter Cronkite and CBS News. The program, entitled "Remembering a March, a Movement and a Dream," delved into the role of the press in the Civil Rights Movement, lessons learned, and how they can be applied in the digital age. As Congressman Lewis said that evening and many times throughout his life, "Without the Press, the Civil Rights Movement would have been like a bird without wings." The Kalb Report series is funded by a grant from Inasmuch Foundation.
