Last chance to visit Club library on a Friday in December, see two new exhibits there

The Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library will be open on Fridays in December for members of the National Press Club and guests, following the same safety protocols as the National Press Club.

The library will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 3, Dec. 10, and Dec. 17, and will be closed on Friday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 31, for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the Club is closed.

Members who visit the library on Fridays in December will have full access to the Bloomberg terminal and the library’s other resources. There will also be two new exhibits to view in the display cases at the library’s entrance.

The first exhibit honors Austin Tice, a journalist, veteran Marine Corps captain, and Georgetown University graduate, who was detained in Syria in 2012 while covering the unrest there. The display includes Austin’s notebooks, awards, and his well-worn Chuck Taylors.

The second exhibit honors Raymond Clapper, a columnist and correspondent who died while covering World War II. The Clapper display combines important papers donated by his granddaughter Gail Clapper, with special materials on loan from Knight Kiplinger, whose grandfather commissioned the statuette of Raymond Clapper now on display in the lobby outside the library.

Library capacity will be limited to four people simultaneously, and the conference room will remain closed.

The Library is overseen by the National Press Club Journalism Institute, the nonprofit affiliate of the National Press Club.
