Learn to create 'stories that stick' at next 'Get it Online' lunch Aug. 28

Heads up for an exciting event! The next session in the Club's popular "Get it Online" luncheon series -- this one a discussion of "How to Create Stories That Stick Using Visuals and Social Media" -- will be held Friday noon, Aug. 28, in the Games Room of the National Press Club.

The idea hits you. You type up an article furiously, grab your camera and a tripod, or hop on your mic and hit record on your audio software. You just finished creating a DYNAMITE piece of content, and you can't wait to share it with your community. You hit "Enter" and wait...but, the results were not as you expected. How could this be?

In this session, you'll learn how to create stories that stick by utilizing the free graphic creation tool, Canva, and how to distribute your content through social media in a way that hooks readers and gets them to not only click through, but read and share your story.

The speaker will be Stacey Miller, senior manager of Journalist Community Engagement at Help a Reporter Out (HARO), a Cision company. Her writing has appeared in Forbes, VentureBeat and CIO, as well over 500 authored blogs.

Miller is frequently quoted in online publications as well as published books, including several college textbooks. Consistently mentioned in "top people to follow” and “up and coming pros” lists, Oracle named Stacey a finalist for its Community Manager of the Year Award in 2012.

The Aug. 28 event is the latest in the "Get It Online" lunch discussion series that brings experts in social media and digital communication to the Club for a members-only lunch discussion. Speakers will deliver a short presentation, and then answer questions and lead a discussion.

Members and guests should plan to be seated by 12 noon. The cost of the event includes a buffet lunch, water and iced tea, tax and gratuity. The cost is $15 for members and $75 for non-member guests. The event will conclude by 1:30 p.m.
