Learn use of basic journalism tools at NPC Journalism Institute, Google News Lab event, Aug. 14

Maggie Farley, a teaching fellow at Google News Lab, will offer advice on how to use the latest technology for reporting in the digital age at a National Press Club Journalism Institute event to be held in conjunction with Google News Lab on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. in the Bloomberg Room.

Farley, a former Los Angeles Times foreign correspondent will teach use of a broad range of Google tools, including Google Search, Google Alerts, Google Scholar, Google Permissions, Google Maps, Google Translate and Google Trends.

Doors for the event will open at 9:45 a.m. Registration is required. The cost is $5 for members of the National Press Club and $10 for nonmembers.

Farley worsks with Google News Initiative to help journalism thrive in the digital age. She travels around the country to small and medium newsrooms to train journalists in tech tools to enhance their reporting, verification, data visualization and multimedia skills.
