Local head of World Press Photo Exhibition to speak to Club Photo Team, noon Oct. 10

Robert Meins, executive director of the Lightscape Foundation, will discuss the Washington edition of the World Press Photo Exhibition at a luncheon meeting of the National Press Club Photo Team at noon Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the McClendon Room.

The Photo Team meeting is open to all Club members and their guests. Lunch will be available at 12 noon at the Reliable Source buffet. The program will start at 12:30 and wrap up around 1:15.

The World Press Photo Exhibition will be held in the Dupont Underground from Nov. 4 through Nov. 26. Lightscape is partnering with think tanks, universities, embassies, media, international, nongovernmental and civil society organizations to tell the stories behind the year’s award-winning photographs.

Recently established, the Lightscape Foundation is dedicated to promoting engagement with global current events through photojournalism.

Founded in Amsterdam in 1955, World Press Photo organizes one of the most renowned global press-photography competitions. Last year, more than 80,000 images were submitted by photographers from over 120 countries.

An independent jury selected the best images in eight categories, ranging from nature and sport to contemporary issues and spot news. These images were transformed into an exhibition that is visited by four million people in 100 major cities across the globe every year.

Meins is a development economist by vocation, having worked for the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
