Member Camille Bohannon salutes America at Normandy July 4

National Press Club Broadcast Committee member Camille Bohannon lent her vocal skills to a 4th of July Concert at the U.S. Cemetery at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France.

Bohannon is a member of the chancel choir at Covenant United Methodist Church in Montgomery Village, Md., which was one of the groups that contributed members to a roughly 200-singer "American Tapestry Choir" led by world renowned composer/conductor Joseph Martin that performed patriotic and inspirational/sacred music while facing the cemetery crosses and the beaches beyond on Independence Day.

"It was incredibly emotional to be part of the event," Bohannon said. "It was particularly moving when the choirs sang the tribute to all the several U.S. armed services. The music could be heard throughout the cemetery, as people came to listen."

The Covenant contingent also sang in two cathedrals in London.

Sightseeing "and eating" in Paris and London capped what Bohannon called "a life-changing experience."

The Club's Broadcast Committee, of which Bohannon is a member, meets on the first Thursday of most months at lunchtime during which members work on projects to enhance involvement by broadcasts in the Club and to share stories such as these. Committee membership is open to all Club members by contacting Chairman Mark Hamrick at [email protected]

The next meeting is Thursday, Sept. 1.
