Mike McCurry plans to be speaker at NPC Communicators Summit on Oct. 31

The future of news, communicating with journalists, the science behind better communicating, and legal issues facing all communicators are all slated to be discussed at the National Press Club Communicators Annual Summit on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ballroom.

Morning speaker Richard Levick plans to discuss the implications for communicators when legal issues affecting the industry are in flux or evolving. How do we protect ourselves and do great work for our clients or organizations when communication, technology, and legal issues intersect?

A panel of academics and PR/communicator professionals plan to talk about the science behind effective communications — in theory and in practice.

A town hall featuring a panel of Washington-based journalists from various news organizations and mediums is expected to look at “The Road Ahead.” Panel members include:

  • Jon Decker, Fox White House reporter
  • Rachel Smolkin, vice president and executive editor of CNN Politics
  • Lisa Matthews, assignment manager for AP Television
  • Ben Terris, staff writer at The Washington Post
  • Kate Nocera, DC bureau chief of BuzzFeed
  • Sonya Gavankar, director of public relations at the Newseum is slated to be the moderator.

Mike McCurry, former Clinton White House press secretary and communicator legend, is scheduled to be the luncheon speaker discussing crisis communications and other topics of importance to communicators.
