Navy information chief plans Post 20 speech, Feb. 18

Admiral BrownThe National Press Club's American Legion Post 20 plans to host Navy Rear Admiral Charles Brown, chief of information, at a luncheon meeting at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in the Reliable Source's McClendon Room.  

The speaker portion of the meeting is open to all Club members.  

Admiral Brown oversees the Navy's public affairs program; he plans to discuss public affairs priorities and challenges for the Navy.  

A 1994 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Admiral Brown has been a public affairs officer (PAO) for more than 20 years. He has served as PAO for the Pacific Fleet and the Third Fleet, special assistant  for public affairs to the Chief of Naval Operations, PAO for the Naval Air Forces, and aircraft carrier and battle group PAO for the USS Constellation (CV 64) and Cruiser Destroyer Group One. He has also served as deputy PAO for the Fifth Fleet/U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, deputy PAO for Naval Surface Forces, and fleet media officer at the Fleet Forces Command. He holds a masters degree in mass communication and media studies from San Diego State University.

Post 20 was founded at the suggestion of World War I General John Pershing, who was serving in Washington after the war and was an associate member of the Club. Post 20 celebrated its 100th anniversary last November. Its American Legion charter was issued on Nov. 19, 1919.
