Neikirk plans launch of new mystery 'The Copperhead Club' at the Press Club on Nov. 17

Former Chicago Tribune White House correspondent Bill Neikirk plans to launch his new Washington thriller, The Copperhead Club, at the National Press Club on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Zenger Room.

The launch party with wine and hors d’oeuvres is being held the same night as the Press Club's Book Fair & Author Night.

The Copperhead Club is a novel about a high-level scandal that threatens a sitting president, said Ruth Neikirk.

For more than 40 years, Neikirk has earned a reputation as one of Washington’s finest journalists, first for the Associated press and then for the Chicago Tribune, where he covered politics, international economics, and, later, the White House. Now retired, the former Gridiron Club president has turned to fiction-writing, producing a page-turner novel that combines a first-hand knowledge of how Washington works with a native Kentuckian’s understanding of mountain communities and a flair for mystery-writing.

Critics say The Copperhead Club is a satisfying read, filled with intrigue, wry humor, and occasional real-life copperheads.

“Bill Neikirk has given us a gem of a thriller here that has it all,” said Mike McCurry, an NPC member and White House press secretary during the Clinton administration. “This novel tops the real story, and that’s hard to do.”
