New chairs update the Club with bow to tradition and history

The new chairs and bar stools that have just been added to the Reliable Source Dining Room, Cosgrove Lounge, McClendon Room, and Truman Lounge and Bar are a perfect example of an upgrade that allows for all of the conveniences of modern manufacturing without sacrificing our traditional look.

The National Press Club’s history is important to our culture and traditions, and is even evident in our décor. For members and visitors alike it is our sense of history that is most appealing and charming, so when upgrades and changes are needed, we take great care in ensuring that our historic identity is not lost.

The new chairs (purchased from a Canadian manufacturer) are smaller and sleeker in size, allowing for greater comfort and ease of maneuverability, and incorporate the Club’s classic blue and gold colors with a solid, traditional wooden frame.

We have also increased the number of armless chairs based on feedback from our younger members, who wanted chairs that could be easily grouped together to make room for spontaneous gatherings in the evenings. Bar stools and scattered high-top tables have also been added to a portion of the Truman Lounge area.

The overall result, as some members have already commented, creates a far more open and attractive atmosphere that complements our traditional décor. The new chairs and stools are also a good match with other recent changes including the new flooring in the bar and treatment in the Truman Lounge, as well as the updated and improved Cosgrove Lounge.
