New NPC member Johnson to address race on Channel 9 show, Aug. 7

One of the Club’s newest members, veteran broadcaster Bruce Johnson, will lead an interesting and innovative program “Race: An Honest Conversation with Bruce Johnson,” a one-hour prime time special on Channel 9 on Friday Aug. 7 at 8 p.m.

The hashtag for tweeting the event is #9TalksRace.The town hall style format will feature in-studio participants including journalists from the Washington Post, a partner in the production.

“We really hope Press Club members will participate via social media,” said Johnson. “Media coverage, and people’s perception of media coverage can be a big part of the conversation on race,” he said, adding “we think having media voices in the discussion helps inform the audience both online and on air.”

Bruce Johnson has covered Washington for more than 30 years for the CBS-affiliate. Both Johnson and Channel 9 felt the time was right for an honest conversation on race after the civil unrest in Ferguson and Baltimore and the shootings in Charleston.
