New Orleans Mayor to Speak at Aug. 19 Luncheon

Five years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast and nearly sunk New Orleans, newly-elected New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will report on the city's progress and potential at a National Press Club luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 19.

Landrieu, two-time lieutenant governor of Louisiana, brother of Sen. Mary Landrieu and son of former New Orleans Mayor Moon Landrieu, won the mayor's office in a landslide election in February.

The hurricane that flooded New Orleans in 2005 drove many residents and businesses from the city. Now the city is facing the economic impact of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. New Orleans also has a $67.5 million budget deficit.

The luncheon begins at 12:30 p.m. Cost of the luncheon is $17 for National Press Club members, $28 for their guests and $35 for the general public. To reserve, call 202-662-7501 or email [email protected].

To submit a question in advance, put LANDRIEU in the subject line and email it to [email protected] before 10 a.m. on Aug. 19.
