New Yorker cartoonist Liza Donnelly to donate custom drawing for Fourth Estate Award Gala, Nov. 18

Renowned cartoonist and writer Liza Donnelly will create an exclusive, journalism-focused drawing for this year’s Fourth Estate Award Gala, which will take place virtually on Nov. 18. Tickets are available to Club members for $25 per household.

In addition to gifting her incredible drawing talent and sharp wit in the form of a custom illustration for the event, Donnelly will share personal insights as she draws — a unique look inside an artist’s mind as she creates — during the program.

The artist’s live digital reporting and cartoons have been featured in The New Yorker, where she has been a staff artist since 1979; on CBS News, NBC, and CNN; and in Forbes, Fusion, Medium, Narrative, Politico, The Daily Beast, Open Salon, The Huffington Post, and Women’s eNews, among others.

The 2020 Fourth Estate Award Gala honoring CBS News president Susan Zirinsky will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18. Guests will be able to mingle in the custom virtual ballroom before and after the event, which is the major fundraiser for the National Press Club Journalism Institute, the Club’s nonprofit affiliate. Food and beverage options are available for pre-order and purchase at the Club’s online store.

Guests will be able to bring home a copy of Donnelly’s custom illustration, to be unveiled at the gala. Donnelly has graciously agreed to print and autograph a copy of the illustration for anyone who donates $100 or more during the evening’s festivities.

“Liza’s incredible generosity is such a unique, creative gift to the Institute,” said Journalism Institute Executive Director Julie Moos. “That she’s making this piece available for our guests to enjoy in their homes ensures they’ll have a visible reminder to celebrate journalism excellence any day of the year.”
