"Nostalgia Night" of Club, Building History, 6:30 pm May 19

An open house nostalgia night, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, in the Holeman Lounge, will mark the quarter-century anniversary of the rededication of the Club and the National Press Building.

A long-forgotten video documentary made for the cornerstone time capsule will be shown, and four of the key figures in the 1985 celebration will tell some inside stories. When the remodeling of the building and the Club were completed that year, both were rededicated.

Admission is free; there will be refreshments and a cash bar. RSVP at (202) 662-7150.

The program includes remarks by David Hess, the Club's 1985 president who will recall that the Club and building were designated an historic journalism site that year by the Society of Professional Journalists; 1961 President John Cosgrove. who occupied building space longer than anyone, Bill Hickman, who ran the Press Building Corp. during the renovations; and 1979 President Arthur Wiese, who chaired the Club's remodeling committee.

Photos will depict treasured archival moments. The only thing missing: the Marine Band, which played at the original building dedication as President Coolidge laid the cornerstone in 1926, and the Marine Band of 25 years ago, which trumpeted the National Press Club March as Treasury Secretary James A. Baker III presided over the rededication.
