National Press Club members can vote online,by mail or in person in upcoming Club officers and board elections, the Board of Governors decided at its meeting Monday.

The Board approved a resolution by Secretary Joel Whitaker to authorize online voting for any member who wishes to participate. The resolution direct's the Club's staff to acquire the necessary equipment and computer software to create an online voting system.

In adopting the motion, the governors noted that online voting has been successfully implemented by a number of journalism organizations, associations and colleges and now included sufficient security measures to ensure ballot integrity and member privacy.

Members can choose whether to vote via mail using a paper ballot, in person at the Club on election day or online.

The Board plans to revise the Club's election rules to implement online voting and vote on the new measures by September.
