NPC Broadcast Committee to feature Brian Lamb at Legends Dinner

Brian Lamb, a Club member, Fourth Estate Award winner and creator of C-SPAN, the Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network, will headline the Broadcast Committee's second Legends Dinner on Tuesday, May 12, in the Winners Room of the Fourth Estate restaurant.

C-SPAN and the National Press Club have a special history together. Lamb hosted the first C-SPAN roundtable remote interview from a small room at the Club. Lamb's official bio on the website of Purdue University, where the communications school is named for him -- says he built radio crystal sets as a child. After graduating from Purdue, he joined the Navy, served tours at the White House and in public affairs at the Pentagon and later worked freelance for UPI Audio. Lamb, a 34-year Club member, was a Senate press secretary and worked in the White House Office of Telecommunications Strategy when satellite communications was in its infancy.

With that background and jobs covering cable for a newsletter and a magazine, he developed the idea for C-SPAN. With a small staff at first, many C-SPAN executives had on-air roles. Over time, his interviews with world leaders and Washington newsmakers and his long-running series of interviews with authors made him a regular television presence.

A three-course dinner with wine will be served for $50. A cash bar at 6 p.m. will precede the 7 p.m. dinner. The guest list is strictly limited to the first 30 who sign up so we can keep this an intimate conversation with this broadcast legend.
