NPC hosts cancer survivor, NPC member at Headliners Book Rap to discuss ‘Outpedaling the Big C’, May 19

Outpedaling the Big CCelebrating both National Bike Month and National Melanoma Awareness Month, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Elizabeth McGowan will discuss her memoir "Outpedaling the Big C: My Healing Cycle Across America" at a National Press Club Virtual Headliners Book Rap on Wednesday, May 19, at 2 p.m.

"Outpedaling the Big C" chronicles a 90-day solo bike ride from Oregon to Virginia McGowan undertook to celebrate her recovery from melanoma and highlights other cancer survivors who work to promote cancer research. The memoir also explores her relationship with her father who died at age 44 from melanoma when McGowan was 15.

McGowan is a freelance journalist covering environmental and energy issues, and an NPC member. While writing for InsideClimate News, she won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting with David Hasemyer and Lisa Song for their series on the Kalamazoo River oil spill.

This one-hour program will stream live on the Club's website and YouTube Channel, and is accessible to both the media and members of the general public free-of-charge.
