NPC Journalism Institute nears end of its fundraising campaign

The National Press Club Journalism Institute is reaching the end of its current fundraising campaign, hoping to bring in $40,000 to support its press freedom and educational programming efforts.

Journalists have provided essential, sometimes life-saving information, and added important context to the conversations that are guiding our communities. As journalists’ professional needs continue to evolve in 2021, the Institute has answered by:

  • Producing dozens of free virtual professional development programs on topics including writing and editing, diversity and inclusion, covering the pandemic and election aftermath, and more.
  • Pressing to remove barriers to press freedom and providing direct support for journalists who are unjustly targeted for their work.
  • Publishing a daily, industry-focused newsletter that provides top headlines, craft tips, leadership advice, and resources.
  • Facilitating a dynamic nonfiction writing group and community conversations about the industry.

These initiatives,as well holding the Fourth Estate Awards Gala as a hybrid event, were just a few highlights of the Institute’s efforts to connect Club members and the public to tools, training and networks that help journalists better serve their communities and democracy.

As you consider end-of-year giving options, please note:

  • This year’s CARES Act allows for taxpayers who take the standard deduction to also deduct up to $300 in charitable giving, or $600 for married individuals filing joint returns.
  • The Institute waived registration fees for much of its programming, saving participants tens of thousands of dollars and expanding access to training. Your donation can help us keep programming accessible as we head into 2022.New Yorker artist will sign print for certain donors
  • As an extra incentive, New Yorker magazine cartoonist Liza Donnelly has offered a signed 5”x7” print of the drawing on the right to donors who give $150 or more to the Institute by the end of 2021.

Any donation will help the Institute strengthen journalism in the public interest. Every gift makes a difference. You can make your tax-deductible donation here, or email executive director Julie Moos to discuss specific initiatives you’d like to fund.
