NPC members invited to attend free lunch to discuss local journalism and democracy, Nov. 29

Corporate decisions to slash newsroom budgets across the country are forcing new thinking about the viability of local journalism in America. Why does it matter? Because information is power, and an uninformed public is ill prepared to participate in a democracy.

National Press Club member Sarah Pytalski of Burness Communications invites fellow Club members to attend a luncheon discussion to explore the unique value of local community journalism, its link to a vibrant democracy, and innovative solutions for fighting back against an agenda intent on starving the public of information.

The event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 12:30 pm. to 2:00 p.m. at Busboys and Poets, located at 450 K Street, N.W. Lunch will be provided!

Dave Krieger, who was fired as editorial page editor of the Boulder, Colorado, Daily Camera for speaking his mind, will be joined by Nicco Mele, director of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy.

Admission is free for Club members. Register online.
