NPC’s Books and Brunch to discuss “The Accidental President” Feb. 9

Please join National Press Club Books and Brunch for a discussion of “The Accidental President: Harry S. Truman and The Four Months That Changed The World” by A. J. Baime at noon Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Fourth Estate Restaurant.

The central focus of Baime’s work begins with Franklin Roosevelt’s death on April 12, 1945, and continues through the first tumultuous four months of Truman's first term, which was described by a New York Times columnist at the time as “one of the most momentous periods in man’s history.”

How did this quintessential ordinary man with minimal experience and no tutelage from his predecessor make decisions ending WWII and face the challenges of embarking on the Cold War? Join us and find out!

If you are able to attend, please contact Fay Iudicello at faysiudicello@ gmail.com or call her at 703-989-4503 before noon Thursday, Feb. 7. We want to assure adequate seating and service for all attendees.

Books and Brunch is open to all Club members and their guests. Lunch may be ordered off the restaurant’s menu. It is not mandatory to have read the book; there's plenty to learn from hearing the discussion.
