NPC's Fourth Estate plans Sadie Hawkins Lobster Night Celebration, Wed., Feb. 29

The National Press Club's Fourth Estate restaurant plans to celebrate Sadie Hawkins Day with its customary Lobster Night, which is traditionally held the last Wednesday of the month.

For February, the Sadie Hawkins Lobster Night is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 29. Members pay $25; Non-members $30 for a fresh 1 ¼ pound Maine Lobster with coleslaw and choice of French Fries or Oven Crisped Potatoes. All are advised to make reservations 24 hours in advance to a assure a crustacean by calling 202-662-7638. A very limited number of lobsters will be available for those without a reservation.

Sadie Hawkins’ celebrations have their root in the iconic American folk comic, Al Capp's Li'l Abner. In 1937, Sadie Hawkins was tired of waiting for the fellows to come a courtin' and engineered -- with her Pappy, Hekzebiah Hawkins -- a foot race in which unmarried gals pursued the town's bachelors, with matrimony the consequence. The term has come to mean a turning of the tables, with women-folk asking their male pals out on a date. In this case, inviting them to Lobster night. Men-folk are also invited to invite their gal pals.

The regular Fourth Estate menu will be available for non-lobster lovers featuring Grilled Chicken with Cashews, Steak au poivre, Quinoa stuffed Acorn Squash or Curried Shrimp. Desserts range from Cinnamon Crunchy Pear Crisp to silky Vanilla Panna Cotta with Ginger Sauce, made in house.
