Pakistan flood photographer plans discussion at meeting of Photo, ICC committees, Feb. 12

Satomi Kato will discuss her photo exhibit, "Rebuilding Hope after the Pakistan Floods," at a joint luncheon meeting of the Nation Press Club's Photography and International Correspondents Committees at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the McClendon Room.

Kato is a former TV anchor and radio broadcaster in Japan.

All Club members and their guests are invited to attend. No reservations are required.

Kato shot the photos for the U.N. Development Program (UNDP) to document UNDP's work throughout Pakistan in 2010 and 2011, in areas that were hardest hit by catastrophic flooding that killed and displaced thousands of people. These devastating floods hit Pakistan for two consecutive years and the 2010 floods swept through a fifth of the length and breadth of Pakistan.

Kato's photo exhibit, which illustrates post-flood recovery work in Pakistan, will be on display in the Club's lobby through Feb. 15. These photos were previously displayed in New York, Milan, and Tokyo.

This is Kato's second photo exhibit at the NPC. Kato previously traveled to remote areas of Peshawar, Pakistan, near the Afghan border, to photograph Afghan refugee children in 2005. Those images were exhibited at both the Club and at the UN Headquarters in New York in 2006.
