Panel of energy reporters plan to discuss beat at virtual 'Lunch and Learn' event, Aug. 19

A panel of reporters who cover the energy industry plan to participate in an online “Lunch and Learn” session hosted by the Communicators Team on Thursday, Aug. 19, at noon to discuss how they’re deciphering complex energy issues for their audiences.

Admission is free for all National Press Club members. Non-members may attend for a $15 registration fee. Register and get more information about the event here

Proceeds from the event will support the NPC’s Help The Heroes Program for workers at Howard University Hospital, which serves communities of color that are often the most impacted by COVID-19.

The panel is expected to feature six reporters for a conversation about the unique challenges today’s energy beat presents. They are also expected to explain how communicators can assist them throughout the newsgathering process.

The energy reporters scheduled to participate in the discussion are Zack Colman of POLITICO, Rachel Frazin of The Hill, Timothy Gardner of Thomson Reuters, Josh Lederman of NBC News, Ivan Penn of the New York Times and Pippa Stevens of CNBC.

Communicators Team member Kate Tillotson, the communications manager at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, is scheduled to moderate the program. NRECA represents more than 900 electric co-ops across America. Before joining NRECA in 2019, Tillotson spent 15 years as an award-winning TV news anchor and reporter at WWMT-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan; KCFW-TV in Kalispell, Montana; and WRDW-TV in Augusta, Georgia.

The session includes a question-and-answer session.
