Party like its 1919 at Press Club Prohibition event on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m.

Party!

What’s a Scoff-Law?

Come to the Reliable Source on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. to “Party like it’s 1919” to find out.

The event is a combined effort of three Club teams, History and Heritage, Events, and Young Members. No special charge for entry, but please reserve here so we know how many people are coming.

A six-piece Ragtime/Dixieland band plans to make the restaurant jump as we commemorate two things that year a century ago that changed the National Press Club: the beginning of Prohibition in D.C. and the founding of the Women’s National Press Club.

The Jefferson Street Strutters provides the music, as the bartenders recreate the historic Scoff-Law and the restaurant presents three-choices for an all-inclusive dinner.

1919 was a big year in D.C. as Prohibition began and women received the right to vote. Hear about what happened at the Club the night booze was banned, how the Club “honored” Prohibition, and how women journalists formed their own Press Club to counter the all-male NPC.

Come in costume if you like, but be prepared for a good time. A prize will be given for the best Women’s suffrage/Prohibition-era outfit.
