PenFed Foundation names Club member Andrea McCarren president

The PenFed Foundation this month named Andrea McCarren, a former television reporter and member of the National Press Club, president of the Foundation. She also will serve as senior vice president of PenFed Digital, a division she created in 2019.

The PenFed Foundation describes itself as a national nonprofit organization that supports veterans in their transition from service to success. It was founded by the PenFed Credit Union.

In addition to earning accolades in the journalism profession, McCarren was named to HillVets 100, a recognition reserved for the country's "most influential and impactful veterans, service members and supporters," according to a press release announcing her new position.

"Veterans are the backbone of our country. They contribute valuable experience in leadership and teamwork, and are driven by a strong sense of purpose," McCarren said in the press release. "The PenFed Foundation invests in these dedicated men and women, and showcases the value of their service. There is no better investment. At the same time, the military is struggling to recruit. The Foundation is committed to using modern strategies to help reach the next generation of future leaders." Under her leadership, PenFed Digital has shared stories of active service that have reached more than 200 million viewers, the release said.

She also has raised five service dogs for use by wounded warriors and others with a disability, and says she has plans to raise a sixth puppy later this year. She is married to Bill McCarren, who recently retired as executive director of the Club.
