Photo exhibit deadline extended to Wednesday, Aug. 21

National Press Club members now have until Wednesday, Aug. 21, to submit their print photos and electronic images in the Club's 20th annual photo exhibit. This year's exhibit displays members' print photos and electronic images in the Club's 13th floor lobby from Aug. 30 to Sept. 27, with a special opening reception highlighting efforts toward a Fallen Journalists Memorial on Friday, Sept. 6.

The annual exhibit is a celebration of visual story telling by Club members. It's not a contest. No judging takes place nor are prizes awarded. As before, participants can enter up to six pictures for the show, two print photos and four electronic images. Full exhibit rules and guidelines are available on the Photography Committee's web page.

Print photos may have a maximum overall size (print plus mat) of 11 by 14 inches, and securely mounted on sturdy mounting board. If matting is used, it must be securely attached. Send or deliver photo prints to the Club's membership office at 529 14th Street NW, 13th floor, Washington, DC 20045.

Electronic images are uploaded online with an online form. For each image we ask for a title, but you can also provide a brief description and a more detailed story behind the image, as well as links to related online content. We're collecting this information for an online exhibit catalog to go along with the displays. Print photo participants can also tell their stories in the online catalog, on a form.

Mark your calendars for the exhibit's opening reception on Friday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 pm. This year's reception is a special event because of the exhibit's 20th consecutive year, and we're using the occasion to raise awareness of the Fallen Journalists Memorial supported by the National Press Club Journalism Institute.

The Fallen Journalists Memorial Foundation aims to erect a permanent memorial in Washington, D.C. to journalists killed doing their work. The memorial has special meaning to news photographers who are often highly visible targets for attackers. Representatives of the foundation will be at the reception to tell more about the project.
