POSTPONED: July 1 Club Newsmaker on efforts to release Austin Tice, detained journalist

The National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker event with Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, and Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, talking about Biden administration efforts to gain the release of detained journalist Austin Tice, scheduled for Thursday, July 1, at 11 a.m., has been postponed. Recently scheduled votes in Congress will keep the speakers occupied that morning.

The event will be rescheduled for a later date.

For more information on Tice and his situation, see this story from the Club's Wire newsletter.

The Club has led several campaigns to call attention to Tice and his plight. In 2015 the Club named Tice one of its honorees for the John Aubuchon Award For Press Freedom. In 2018 the Club held a news conference with then-Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Robert O’Brien, in which the U.S. government said publicly for the first time of Tice, “we have every reason to believe he is alive.”
