President's COVID-19 Update: Gym reopens, with limits

Following is a COVID-19 update from National Press Club President Lisa Nicole Matthews:

Fellow Club Members,

We continue to follow COVID 19 safety protocols as outlined by the DC government. The latest update from the city allows the Club gym to reopen this week, on Friday, May 8, with new health and safety protocols.

Members wanting to use the gym must make a reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. NPC staff will confirm availability. Scheduling will be based on allowing adequate time to clean and disinfect between members. Workouts will be limited to one hour with a maximum of three people inside the facility at a time.  D.C. Health guidance restricts the use of shared lockers to store personal items and restricts the use of showers.

Members are required to wear a face covering while in the Club. All individuals must wear a face covering while entering, exiting, or within the facility, including while exercising.

When working out ensure at least 10 feet social distancing in all directions between members and between members and staff. Members must bring their own towels, exercise mats, and water bottles. Members must use provided disinfectant wipes after each use of exercise equipment. NPC Staff will clean and use EPA-approved disinfectants in high traffic and high touch surface areas (e.g., exercise equipment, counters, restrooms, etc.) routinely throughout the day, and in between client use.

We will have more to say about Club reopening plans at the May 20 Membership Meeting.
