Press Club Big Blue softball team ends playoffs run with loss to Washington Post

The National Press Club's Big Blue co-ed softball team played three games Saturday, July 16, in its playoffs appearance in the Metropolitan Media Softball League championship series. Losing that third game, to the overall #1 tournament seed, which avoided having to play a game during the first time slot in the schedule, meant the end of the team's run for the 2022 season.

Big Blue, the #6 seed in the playoffs round, lost its first game to the #3 seed NPR, sending it down to the losers bracket and giving it another chance. The next game saw Big Blue come out on top of #2 seed Sirius to advance to the game against #1 seed Washington Post. Coincidentally, in the third round when NPC lost, so did NPR, the team that beat Big Blue in the opening game, meaning both were eliminated from further tournament play in the same round.

Ultimately, it was #5 seed CNN that took home the league trophy on Sunday, July 17, fending off #7 seed Discovery.

The NPC team has declared itself already preparing to make the playoffs in the 2023 season.
