Pulitzer-winner Clark Hoyt to headline Hoot Saturday, Oct. 29 at noon

Clark Hoyt, whose career spanned 50 years as a newspaper reporter, editor, corporate news executive and news ombudsman, headlines the National Press Club's Silver Owls Fall Hoot, discussing “The Shrinking of Old-Fashioned News Media and the Crazy 2016 Election. Related?” at noon Saturday, Oct. 29, in the Holeman Lounge.

The Owls Hoot is open to all Press Club members and guests. Price is the traditional $35, which includes a buffet lunch and a cash bar. Tickets can be purchased online.

Hoyt, shared a Pulitzer Prize and served as the public editor, or ombudsman, of the New York Times. Before his retirement in 2015, he also served as an ombudsman and editor at large at Bloomberg News.

The majority of Hoyt’s career was with Knight Ridder. He started as a general assignment reporter and, later, politics writer with the Detroit Free Press.

In 1970, he became the Washington correspondent for the Miami Herald and later served as national correspondent, news editor and chief of the Knight Ridder Washington bureau. He also served from 1993-99 as vice president for news. In 2004, he received the John S. Knight Gold Medal, Knight Ridder’s top employee award.
